Tucson Summer Lurks

Winter in Tucson is coming to an end. While much of the country has suffered through weather bringing extreme cold and massive snows, we have enjoyed a pleasant winter. There were a few nights with near freezing temperatures and days in the 50s but mainly we were subjected to 30s/40s overnight and 60s/70s during daylight hours. Very nice, especially since most days were clear and sunny. Made for delightful morning walks. We did get enough rain to keep the desert flora in good condition. But as we enjoy the last few days of cool and refreshing weather, summer lurks.

My wife and I are very content with life in Tucson for many reasons. For eight months a year the weather is nearly perfect, especially the three to four months of winter as described above. Now comes summer and I confess as southern Arizona heats up the high temperatures can be stressful. I know it’s a dry heat which is easier tolerated than heat with high humidity but multiple days with the high over 100° and up to 110° on occasion take their toll. We are fortunate enough to be able to skip out of town occasionally for a reprieve. In coming months, we will spend time in Washington, D.C. and have a tour trip in June into Canada.

None-the-less, overall we are happy with life in Tucson. With a couple of breaks from the summer heat and the pleasant climate the rest of the year, it’s all good.

Have you, a family member or a friend experienced or are currently facing chest surgery?

Are you simply curious about this surgical specialty?

Are you considering a career in Medicine/Surgery?

One of my aims is to provide interesting and informative discussions of thoracic surgeons, thoracic surgery, the diseases they treat and the issues they face. These discussions will both review the development of thoracic surgery and elaborate on the current role surgeons play in the treatment of diseases of the chest including both lung and esophageal cancer.

In addition I will also sprinkle in discussions of other health care related considerations and toss in occasional interviews with a variety of people with some connection to surgery and/or other health care activities
